SVBONY - Eyepiece 23mm 62° Aspheric

This time I'm going to tell you about this cheap eyepiece produced by SVBONY with a focal length of 23mm and an apparent field of view of 62°.

The eyepiece is delivered in a "standard" cardboard box.
I'll start by telling you about the mechanical construction and then the first impressions of use.

The first thing you might notice is the absence of an eyecup extender which in theory helps reduce lateral light reflections.
It may seem impractical and uncomfortable but in practice you can do without it, especially considering the cost-effectiveness of the product.

The lenses have a multilayer treatment (Fully multi-coated) which should improve contrast and partially reduce chromatism ensuring better light transmission.
I can honestly tell you that there are eyepieces that have a more evident and better multilayer coating on the lenses but this does not always mean anything.
We are talking about an eyepiece that today you can buy for around $13!
What left me very satisfied, considering the rather low cost, is the following.

The "barrel" in Standard 1.25” 31.7mm uses a locking system useful when you use accessories such as diagonals or eyepiece holders with a compression ring system and not the more classic one, now only used on low-end and quality products, which uses direct screws (which often also damage the surface of the eyepiece barrels and which sometimes also causes optical centering problems).
It will be difficult to lose the eyepiece under extreme conditions of use and not only.
To be clear, when you use accessories that use this locking system:
Personally, I really appreciate that this mechanical precaution has been used on an economical product, which allows for better optical centering and better mechanical stability.
The mounting barrel is internally threaded to accept any filters and is blackened to reduce the risk of light reflections in the optical path.
The idea of keeping the thread along the entire length of the barrel is a good one, not only to save on the manufacturing process but also because the thread further absorbs some of any residual light reflections.
The optical system is screwed with a ring system, as you can see from the image above.
You can read more about the product by visiting the SVBONY website.
But is everything they say true?
I'll answer you in a dry and direct way, an absolutely personal and debatable opinion obviously... yes!
OPINIONS DIRECT OBSERVATION

Ok, so far so good but how does this eyepiece perform in practice?
I tested the product mainly using an F11 achromatic refractor with 80mm aperture.
The Moon and planets were the main target and I compared this SVBONY eyepiece with other similar eyepieces produced by Celestron which in theory should be of superior quality.
I also used a 2x APO Barlow lens and another ACRO one to understand the behavior of the eyepiece a little better.
I won't beat around the bush, this eyepiece delivered on all the promises SVBONY made.
The residual chromatism introduced by the eyepiece is really reduced and the image of the moon and planets has always been contrasted and well defined even by "stretching" the focal length with the 2X Barlow.
I also used a small Matsukov Cassegrain with a focal length of 1242mm and you know what I say, I have always preferred this eyepiece to other eyepieces for image definition/contrast, quality of vision and surprise even at the edges of the image I have never seen sphericity ... .
The field of view was always well flat and aspherical.
Surprised by the "colors" of Jupiter's bands that were not only well visible and contrasted but also "beautiful to look at" (a very unscientific and untechnical expression but what can you do, when you use your eyes to see objects like Planets and the Moon you can't help but also use your human senses).
The only problem is that it is difficult to align your eye to the center of the eyepiece for a correct view of the entire field of view, but this also depends a lot on the position from which you will be observing (in my case, very uncomfortable positions).
Ultimately, I was personally very impressed with this product which has a convincing price/quality ratio.
My copy is certainly well done.
I would like to point out that I have no commercial or other relationship with SVBONY, which certainly does not pay me to write this review, which reflects entirely personal and questionable opinions.
